School Resource Officers
There are two School Resource Officers assigned to School District 748. Officer Dan Whitson and
Officer Adam VandeVrede share duties in the district's five school buildings. The Sartell/St. Stephen School District is
not a dangerous crime-ridden environment requiring extreme security measures. On the contrary, we feel it is one of the
finest and safest school districts in the state.
The School
Resource Officers are a proactive presence to prevent the degradation
of these
qualities. They administer the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program
(D.A.R.E.), the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.),
Police Activity League (PAL) and Family Group Conferencing.
In 2007, the
Sartell D.A.R.E. program completed its 16th
year. The D.A.R.E. America group revised the training curriculum
which is now more age appropriate for 6th graders than the 5th graders
to which D.A.R.E. had been taught in the past. During the summer, the two SRO's handle the implementation of the Police Activities League and Teen Police Activities League as well as fill patrol shifts.
