Dear New Sartell Residents! Welcome to Sartell! I believe you will find our community to be friendly and with many amenities to offer. The Sartell Police Department is based on community oriented policing. We look for input from you on ways that will continue to make Sartell a safe place to live, work and raise a family. Our department is currently comprised of 17 sworn officers, which includes myself, a deputy police chief and two patrol sergeants. Along with the patrol officers that respond to calls for service and enforce traffic laws, we have a criminal investigator and an officer assigned to the gang unit of the Central Minnesota Drug and Gang Task Force. That assignment was possible because of the commitment of our city council, as well as the cities of St. Joseph, Sauk Rapids and Waite Park who split funding for this position. Our department’s mission is enhanced with the assistance of a Community Service Officer as well as a secretary/communications specialist. We also benefit from having 9 volunteer reserve officers that assist our department with various day to day operations and special events throughout the year. The Police Department tries to maintain a high profile. We have 2 School Resource Officers (SRO's) that teach Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (D.A.R.E) as well as Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T). Both of these programs are designed to assist young people in dealing positively with the pressures of abusing drugs and other issues associated with it. Along with acting as a teaching resource and counselor, the SRO's provide security and crime detection. Every summer our department sponsors the Police Activity League (P.A.L) for area youth to promote healthy lifestyles and allow them to interact with police officers. Our officer's are also called on frequently for public speaking in regard to safety and security issues. If there is a specific topic to be focused on, we do our best to provide that information as accurately as possible. The police department is anxious to hear from you and how we are doing in the eyes of the community. If you have any questions or concern, please do not hesitate to ask or stop by. Sincerely, Jim Hughes, Sartell Police Chief
